Congratulation for IPR Group Of Companies

IPR Scores Major Jurassic Discovery with Zain-1X in Egypt's Western Desert

IPR, USA Texas-based Independent, has successfully completed the testing of the wildcat discovery well Zain-1X in the Yidma-Alamein Development Lease located in the northeastern region of Egypt's Western Desert, approximately 130 km southwest of Alexandria. The well was drilled to a record total depth of 17,000 ft and is the deepest ever drilled in the Alamein basin and second deepest in the Western Desert of Egypt.

Two separate DST's were conducted in Zain-1X with a combined rate of 5,414 bbl oil and condensate and 16.11 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMcfg/D).

The first test interval flowed 9.14 MMcfg/D with 750 bbl of condensate on a 48/64 in. choke with 49 degrees API gravity. Production was from a total of 23 ft of perforations in three commingled perforated intervals.

The second DST of the Jurassic Safa formation naturally flowed 4,664 bbl of 40 degrees API oil and 6.97 million cubic feet of gas per day on a 48/64 in. choke with 1,273 psi flowing tubing wellhead pressure. The second test produced from a single 20 ft perforated interval in the Lower Safa formation.

Additional shallower productive zones were discovered, but not tested during the above program. Total net pay from all prospective intervals exceeded 140 ft. These additional productive intervals will be evaluated and some of the untested oil intervals may be perforated to commingle with the second test interval when production operations begin later this year.

The Zain-1X ST discovery is the deepest easternmost Jurassic oil discovery in Egypt's Western Desert. The oil and gas produced in Zain-1X was found in a four-way dip closure of stacked Jurassic-aged sands from 15,000 to 16,000 ft that are sourced from Jurassic–aged source rocks in the Alamein basin. Zain-1X set a drilling record for the longest 8-1/2 in. drilling run in Africa using an 8-1/2 in. diamond impregnated bit with a 6-5/8 in. turbine.

IPR Chairman/CEO, Dr. M. K. Dabbous stated, "Since acquiring Phillips Petroleum's interests in the Western Desert in 1993, it has been our quest to introduce advanced state-of-the-art non-conventional technology for exploration and production to maximize reserves and optimize oil recovery in all of IPR's operated assets in Egypt. This major discovery opens yet another area of high interest for Jurassic exploration, not just for gas, but high quality oil as well."

IPR, Operator, and partner Sojitz of Japan, plan to continue fully exploiting the upside of this new play concept in the Alamein basin through its joint venture company El Hamra Oil and look forward to bringing on substantial additional reserves to the partnership and the country of Egypt.

Young professionals in energy

Petroleum engineering technologists are responsible for many of the technical activities involved in the production of oil and gas from conventional reservoirs; they work at the well site, in field offices and in head offices. At the well site and field offices, they work shifts and may work outdoors in all weather conditions depending on type of the fields as onshore or offshore.
Currently I'm working in field office as week on week off. In my week off vacation, I want to participate and share my experience in a technical organization or forum, I have read about Young professionals in energy, so, I love reading about it as Young Professionals in Energy is a non-profit energy industry networking organization with many members worldwide. They provide a forum for networking and career development for professionals in the global energy industry around the world.
They aims to facilitate the advancement of young professionals in the energy industry around the world through social, educational and civic service oriented events. Members can learn from each other’s experiences, share industry knowledge and discuss career matters. I'd like to share them and also invite interested friends to participate in Young Professionals organization and hence the networking and educational programs that will hold all over the world as settled in their training plan.

Introduction For Gas Lift

In order to boost production from wells, which do not flow at all or do not flow at optimum level, artificial system using a variety of methods are used. These methods use Gas Lift, Plunger Lift, Chamber Lift, Rod Pumps, Submersible Pumps and so on. Artificial Lift Selection for a particular well can be determined by evaluating several factors such as well's production potential, Gas/Oil ratios, well bore deviation and size as well as corrosion/erosion potential of produced fluids. Other factors include availability of power source such as compressed gas, electricity, surface facility, service availability, space limitation and personnel capabilities. The diagram below provides the basic components of a Gas lift System. In many fields, a high pressure well provides a readily available energy source. If sufficient gas pressure or volume is not available, a compressor can be utilized to operate a closed system. The Gas is recirculated through a compressor facility. Only minor amount of make up gas is needed to replenish gas lost in separation processing or as fuel for compressor facilities.

Gas Lift is one of a number of processes used to artificially lift Oil from wells where there is insufficient Reservoir pressure. The process involves injecting gas down the well through tubing (Annular Flow) or through the tubing-casing Annulus (Tubing Flow). Injected gas aerates the fluid to make it exert less pressure than the formation does; the resulting higher formation pressure forces the fluid out of the wellbore. Gas may be injected continuously or intermittently, depending on the producing characteristics of the well and the arrangement of the gas-lift equipment. Although the gas is recovered from the oil at a later separation stage, the process requires energy to drive a Compressor in order to raise the pressure of the gas to a level where it can be re-injected. The gas-lift mandrel is a device installed in the tubing string of a gas-lift well into which a gas-lift Valve is fitted. The gas-lift valve is installed in the sidepocket Mandrel, however, the valve is installed and removed by Wireline while the mandrel is still in the well, eliminating the need to pull the tubing. Tubing and casing pressures cause the valve to open and close, thus allowing gas to be injected into the fluid in the tubing to cause the fluid to rise to the surface.
